Whiteford Taylor & Preston Named Fairfax County Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year
WASHINGTON - February 2, 2006 - Whiteford, Taylor & Preston L.L.P., is honored to announce that it has been named the "Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year" by the Fairfax Law Foundation and the Fairfax Bar Pro Bono Program.
"We are very proud of this recognition," said Albert J. Mezzanotte, Jr., Whiteford Taylor's managing partner. "Our pro bono programs are integral to the firm's values and culture, and our lawyers support them enthusiastically in each of our offices. It's an added bonus when those lawyers receive external recognition for their dedicated efforts."
In announcing the award, Arlene R. Beckerman, director of pro bono activities for the Fairfax Bar, noted that the firm's lawyers have been involved with pro bono and community activities in Fairfax for many years, and that the firm had handled many clients and issues arising out of our work at Homestretch, "greatly benefiting that population."
WTP attorneys have assisted dozens of Homestretch residents in the Courts throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our attorneys meet with members of the Homestretch community the second Tuesday of each month. The legal issues raised by the members of the community are varied and can include domestic cases, trusts/estate issues, tax issues, insurance questions, consumer rights actions, landlord-tenant disputes and employment claims. Our goal is to resolve as many of the community's issues at the monthly meetings. In the instances where issues are not able to be resolved, WTP attorneys agree to be retained to represent the members of the community in resolving their disputes.
