Whiteford, Taylor & Preston Partner, Joseph K. Pokempner, Receives The Maryland Commendation Medal from the State of Maryland Military Department
Baltimore, MD - Whiteford, Taylor & Preston L.L.P., is pleased to announce that Colonel (MDDF) Joseph K. Pokempner received the Maryland Commendation Medal from the State of Maryland Military Department. Col. Pokempner was awarded the Maryland Commendation Award from Governor Ehrlich for his commendable service as the director of legal support services for the Maryland Defense Force.
The Maryland Defense Force is a support unit for the Maryland National Guard in drill, training and mobilization.
Mr. Pokempner is a partner in the Labor and Employment Law Group in the Baltimore office of Whiteford, Taylor & Preston. Mr. Pokempner received his L.L.B., from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1962 and his B.A., from Johns Hopkins University in 1957. Mr. Pokempner was the President of the Bar Association of Baltimore City in 1984-1985 and the President of the Baltimore Chapter, Federal Bar Association in 1979-1980. Mr. Pokempner was chair of the Labor Law Section of the Maryland State Bar Association from 1982-1984. Mr. Pokempner is the 2004 recipient of the Charles H. Dorsey, Jr. Mentor Award and was awarded the 2004 Honorary Alumnus Award from the University of Baltimore's Alumni Association. He is an active member of the Maryland State Bar Association and the American Bar Association, where he was a member of the House of Delegates from 1992-1994. He has been listed in Best Lawyers of America since 1985 and was the 2004 Honorary Alumnus of the Year, University of Baltimore School of Law.
