Riddick "Big Daddy" Bowe, Two Time Former Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the World, Files Chapter 11 Petition
Baltimore, Maryland, October 14, 2005 - Former two time world heavyweight boxing champion Riddick Bowe filed for Chapter 11 protection in the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maryland in Greenbelt, Maryland.
Bowe, who is most famous for his trilogy with Evander Holyfield, is also a three-time New York Golden Gloves Champion and 1988 Olympic Silver Medal winner.
According to Bowe's attorney, Paul Nussbaum, of the Baltimore law firm Whiteford, Taylor & Preston, "the Chapter 11 filing was driven primarily by alleged obligations related to business transactions and related litigation, and liquidity issues." The primary purpose for the bankruptcy is to enable Mr. Bowe to restructure his debts and to address his contingent liabilities while allowing him to focus on his boxing career. After seven and a half years away from boxing, Bowe began his comeback in late 2004.Bowe has a record of 42 wins and 1 loss, with 1 no-contest, and 33 knockouts.
