Associated Black Charities Announces 2013 Honorees

Baltimore, MD – Diane Bell-McKoy, President/CEO of Associated Black Charities (ABC) and Rev. Bowyer G. Freeman, Chairman of the Board of Directors are pleased to announce the 2013 Honorees to be recognized at the ABC 2013 Gala to be held on Saturday, June 8 at Martin's West, 6817 Dogwood Road, Baltimore, MD from 7 pm – 1 am.

ABC will present its Icon Award to Pamela Colbert, Vice President of Quality Assurance at McCormick & Company; Robert Curbeam, Jr., Vice President Mission Assurance at Raytheon Company; Adrian Johnson, Senior Vice President & Chief Finance Officer at Municipal Employees Credit Union (MECU); and Elizabeth Johnson, Vice President for Special Projects, Martin's Caterers with Special Recognition going to Harry Johnson, Partner at Whiteford, Taylor & Preston; and Lee Walker, President & CEO Innovative Engineering Solutions.

The 2013 Emerging Leaders Award will be given to Tawana Bhagwat, Global Cosmetic Cover Girl and Human Resource Leader, Proctor & Gamble; Traci Horne, Vice President and Relationship Manager, Wells Fargo; Jimmy Little, Senior Manager of Team & Grassroots Sales, Under Armour;  and John Wilson, Asset Manager, M&T Bank.  The 2013 Community Investor Award winners are Apples & Oranges Fresh Market and Correct Rx Pharmacy Services, Inc.

The 2013 Community Excellence Award will be presented to the Baltimore Ravens.

The Honorary Co-Chairs for the 2013 ABC Gala are Laura Gamble, President of the Greater Maryland Region of PNC Bank and Tony Lewis, Vice President of the Mid-Atlantic Region for Verizon.  This year's Event Chair is Chineta Davis, an ABC board member and retired Vice President of Northrop Grumman.

The ABC gala is the organization's largest annual event and is responsible for substantial funding towards ABC's mission to create healthier and wealthier communities throughout the State of Maryland through responsible leadership and philanthropic investment.

Among this year's gala highlights will be music and dancing in the main banquet hall, a Jazz Lounge featuring local artists and a silent auction.  


ABC is widely recognized as a leading convener, advocate and grant maker addressing issues focused on closing the health and wealth gaps to benefit all citizens in the state of Maryland with a special emphasis on those who traditionally are disconnected from wealth and health opportunities.
