Ralph Thomas Elected Chair of the Federal Bar Association’s Government Contracts Section

Date: November 1, 2024
Whiteford announced that Senior Counsel and Government Contracts Practice Lead Ralph C. Thomas III has been elected Chair of the Federal Bar Association's (FBA) Government Contracts Section by its members and will assume his new role effective November 1, 2024. The FBA, established in 1920, has about 15,000 members, 2000 of which are federal judges, and is dedicated in part to promoting the welfare, interests, education, and professional development of all attorneys involved in federal law. The purpose of the FBA’s Government Contracts Section is to provide a forum for the study and exchange of views on subjects of interest to Government Contracts lawyers.  Thomas will oversee the planning and carrying out of programs, publications and activities related to the field of Government Contracts law.  He will also lead the Section in its monitoring and analyzing of legislation, regulations and policies regarding Federal procurement policy and developing public positions on them.

“My primary goal as Chair will be to not only keep Government Contracts lawyers informed and educated about the latest developments regarding GovCon law,” Thomas said, “but to ensure that the information is quickly shared with the entities that need it most, the rank-and-file Government contractors, large, mid-sized and small.”

Thomas has worked in Whiteford’s Washington, DC office since May 2022 and has considerable experience in Government Contracts law as a senior executive in the Government, an author of numerous articles, a major association advocate, an Adjunct Professor of Law, and as a law practitioner in all major phases of Government Contracts law.
