Spencer Cox and Chip Hancock Join Whiteford in Richmond

Whiteford is pleased to welcome new Partners Spencer Cox and Chip Hancock in Richmond.
 
Spencer Cox is a seasoned litigator specializing in complex litigation, including antitrust, mass tort, commercial disputes and class actions in both state and federal courts. His work has earned him national recognition, including as a Leading Global Antitrust & Competition Lawyer (Lawdragon500, 2025), for Outstanding Antitrust Litigation Achievement in Private Law Practice (American Antitrust Institute, 2022) and as a Top 100 Trial Lawyer in Washington, DC – Civil Plaintiff (National Trial Lawyers). Before practicing law, Mr. Cox served as a Naval Aviator in the United States Navy, including as a flight instructor in the F/A-18 Super Hornet.
 
Chip Hancock has extensive experience negotiating and structuring healthcare transactions for private equity-backed management services organizations and other healthcare providers, including physician practices, ambulatory surgery centers, nursing homes, assisted living facilities and continuing care retirement communities. He also provides strategic counsel on the applicability of federal and state healthcare laws and regulations. Mr. Hancock joins Whiteford from VetEvolve, a private equity-backed veterinary services organization, where he was General Counsel. Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Hancock served as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps, earning a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with combat “V” for service in Ramadi, Iraq. He also served as a team leader with U.S. Marine Corps Special Operations Command.
