COVID-19’s widespread health and economic crisis is tailor made for class action litigation. We’re already seeing numerous class actions filed only two months after widely dispersed disease was first seen around the U.S. Not only are class actions proliferating, but they include subjects which vary widely from the typical consumer and shareholder matters we typically see.

Business losses are mounting from COVID-19 precautions, including from shuttering your premises as a public health precaution or in response to a shutdown order. Particularly for public-facing brick and mortar operations, alternative means to sustain revenue can be deficient or even non-existent.

Spring and summer are the primary months for many associations to hold their annual meetings and special conferences. For many associations, this single event is their largest source of non-dues revenue. It can be a disaster if the event is curtailed or cancelled.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission recently published notice of an intent to issue regulations concerning a searchable database of incident reports on consumer products. The CPSC has for several decades maintained an agency database similar in nature to the searchable database, but information from that agency database could only be released pursuant to the Freedom of Information procedure. The CPSC searchable database is a requirement of the bipartisan Consumer Protection Safety Improvement Act of 2008.

As it celebrates its 75th anniversary this year, Whiteford, Taylor & Preston LLP is delighted to announce its new leadership team.
Having completed four terms as Managing Partner, Albert J. Mezzanotte, Jr. will serve one more year as the Firm's Managing Partner and transition those duties to Martin T. Fletcher. Mr. Fletcher is a present member of the firm's Management Committee and after serving a one year term as Managing Partner Elect will then commence a three year term as Managing Partner.
